Like most musicians, we have lost too many friends to overdose.
We are done waiting for anyone to step in and help.
Musicians for Overdose Prevention is a 501(c)3 nonprofit company founded by and for musicians. Our focus is on distributing Narcan/Naloxone, a harmless opioid-blocker, to small underground rock bands, as well as to the venues that support them.
We encourage musicians of all lifestyles to carry Narcan/Naloxone. This substance can’t hurt a person, even if it is administered incorrectly, but it can reverse an overdose if administered in time.
If all musicians carry Narcan/Naloxone, stigma will go down, and fewer people will die.
Since 2019 we have distributed Narcan/Naloxone to over 350 bands, venues, and small radio stations all over the country. Importantly, we have made direct connections with the vast majority of these musicians, many of whom have said thank you by donating music to our fundraising compilations in return. We are not just strangers handing out medicine. Mutual respect is an important part of what we do.
The opioid crisis is so massive that it can no longer be ignored. Until the “antidote” — Narcan/Naloxone — is as abundant as the drugs that cause overdose, musicians are not safe. In 2022 our aim is to have 500 bands carrying Narcan/Naloxone from MOP. We are launching a “No Profit for Narcan” campaign, aimed at making it fiscally easier for musicians to access this medicine. We are also exploring the possibility of inviting small venues in every state to become “distribution portals” for us, distributing Narcan/Naloxone to both local and traveling bands.
With your help, we can make an even bigger difference in 2022. Please consider donating.
